This written examination requires the detailed study of one set play text and one prescribed historical period of theatrical development. Sections A and B require you to explore one play from a choice of 3 set play texts from the point of view of a director in both an academic and practical way.
In section C you will research an historic period of theatre history and experience and evaluate a modern interpretation of a play written in that period comparing the modern version with its original performance conditions.
How will I study?
The lessons will be a mixture of teacher-led activity, workshops and presentations. Regular theatre visits are an obligatory part of the course. Compulsory after-school rehearsals are a feature of this course and students need to offer this commitment.
What do I need to start the course?
Drama GCSE at Grade B or above is strongly recommended. Grade B in GCSE English is also strongly recommended. You will need to be available to attend an audition during induction week. This will consist of a short learned speech from a published play of your own choice.
